CBD for Scar Tissue & Pain

CBD for Scar Tissue & Pain

Learn how topical CBD products can heal scars and wounds, help diminish scar tissue, alleviate pain and how the skin interacts with CBD as the body’s largest organ.

We’ve talked about how CBD impacts the body’s Endocannabinoid System (ECS) because it’s so similar to the cannabinoids the body produces on its own.  And as a refresher, the ECS is the system that is responsible for maintaining balance in the body both in terms of pleasure/pain responses and healing.  The ECS is a network of receptors found throughout the body and brain that responds to the cannabinoids the body produces as well as the cannabinoids from hemp. In this case, we are talking specifically about CBD (cannabidiol).

The skin is the largest organ of the body and also part of your ECS, with a large network of receptors.  The skin’s ECS receptors play a role in processes like:

  • Cell growth and differentiation
  • Hormone production
  • Cellular integrity

Because the skin’s ECS receptors respond to CBD it can be applied directly to the skin to treat issues like wounds, scars and conditions like acne, psoriasis, bug bites, rashes, sunburns and the list goes on.  CBD has many properties, but it’s anti-bacterial, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties are specifically useful for wounds and abrasions because it can prevent infection, relieve pain and speed up healing.

Scar tissue is the result of cells working to repair an injury with new collagen fibers.  The resulting tissue looks and feels different. Scars may be a source of pride or unwanted (cosmetically) and/or may interfere with a person’s day-to-day function.

  • In most cases, the faster a wound heals, the less collagen will be deposited and the less noticeable the scar will be.
  • Scars form differently on different parts of the body.
  • Scars form differently based on the age of the injured person.

CBD supports the regeneration of skin cells and also limits the spread of damaged cells.  CBD also helps scars heal by regulating collagen production. When you apply CBD directly to a scar, it can help soften and smooth it, which reduces the appearance and texture of the scar tissue.  Of course, it can help with scar pain as well, as noted above. We developed our Premium Hemp Salve with healing and pain relief in mind so we packed it with 500mg of CBD per 1 oz.  Because our formula is thick (not watery) and highly concentrated with CBD, a little goes a long way!

The inspiration for this post at this time comes from our friends who have C-section scars from bringing their babies healthily in the world and, as we found out, April is Cesarean (C-section) awareness month.  Mama’s Farmacy wants to give a shout out to all mamas who have gone through this procedure and honor you and extend our love. Every Mom has a beautiful, unique birth story and as Moms.
